The Head of the Government of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, urged the National Security Minister, Patricia Bullrich, to establish a timeline with specific dates to transfer more than 2,400 detainees currently held in police stations in the City of Buenos Aires to Federal Penitentiary prisons. Macri emphasized the importance of addressing the issue of inmates in unsuitable places who represent a risk to society.
At an event at the Institute of Public Security, Jorge Macri underlined the necessity for prisoners to be in federal prisons and not in police stations. He expressed his willingness to collaborate and work together with Minister Bullrich to find effective solutions, prioritizing the general interest over party interests.
At the same time, Macri recognized the work of Waldo Wolff, the outgoing Security Minister, and praised his successor, Horacio Giménez, as the suitable person for the position. He highlighted the significant investment in resources aimed at strengthening security in the City, emphasizing the importance of expanding the fleet of the City Police with the acquisition of new vehicles, equipment, and technology.
The plan to improve the police fleet foresees an investment of more than $26 billion, which includes the addition of 120 vans, 60 motorcycles, 40 ATVs, and 4 armored minibuses with license plate reading technology and 360-degree cameras, among other technological advances. Jorge Macri reiterated the need to set aside political disputes and focus on implementing effective measures that contribute to providing greater security to the residents of the City of Buenos Aires.
